Deadline for senior exemption applications draws near (Video)

Once again, Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios reminds senior citizen homeowners that the deadline to return their senior exemption application is Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Under Illinois law eligible seniors must reapply every year for the exemption in order to continue to receive the senior exemption reductions, which will appear on second installment tax bill.

Assessor Berrios also reminds seniors that if they do not qualify for the senior freeze exemption which requires a total household income of $55,000 or less for income tax year 2011 that they are still qualified to receive the regular senior exemption in which no income is required.

Seniors who did not receive applications in the mail but believe they are entitled to the exemption, may click here to download the senior exemption form and click here for the senior freeze exemption form or visit www.cookcountyassessor.com. They can also call (312) 443-7550 and request a form be mailed to them.
