Deadline for foreclosed homeowners to apply for compensation is this week

January 18 will be the last day foreclosed homeowners can file a claim to receive compensation as part of the National Mortgage Settlement.

If your home was foreclosed on between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011 you can qualify to file a claim.

Borrowers with mortgages serviced by

  • Bank of America
  • Ally/GMAC
  • Citi
  • J.P. Morgan Chase
  • Wells Fargo

may qualify for a $25 billion settlement agreed upon by those banks and attorneys general across America. Approximately $170 million is available for cash payments to Florida borrowers.

The five mortgage servicers agreed to the settlement after being accused of illegally signing and processing some foreclosure related documents. They are also accused of allowing errors and abuses to take place during their foreclosure processes.

Attorney General Pam Bondi says checks for eligible borrowers will be mailed in mid-2013.
