Young Arkansas Artists 50th Annual Exhibition
(LITTLE ROCK, AR) – The deadline to enter pieces into the Young Arkansas Artists 50th Annual Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center has been extended to Tuesday, January 25, 2011. The Young Arkansas Artists 50th Annual Exhibition will be held March 15 – April 17, 2011, at the Arkansas Arts Center.
In 1961, the Arkansas Arts Center hosted its first statewide children’s art exhibition. Now in its 50th year, the Young Arkansas Artists exhibition continues to recognize the creative achievements of students.
Organized by the Arkansas Arts Center with the cooperation of the Arkansas Department of Education, the Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition is open to students, kindergarten through 12th grade in Arkansas schools - public and private. Entries must be original works created under a teacher’s supervision during the 2010 - 2011 school year. Entries must be submitted by a school, not by individual students or parents. Selections are made based on originality and artistic merit by members of the Arkansas Art Educators Association. Artworks which receive the highest number of votes for each grade level are selected for exhibition.
One “Best of Class” and two “Honorable Mentions” are awarded per grade, and monetary awards provided by Arkansas Children’s Hospital are given to each winner’s school.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Young Arkansas Artists exhibition, eight additional awards will be awarded. Four awards will be selected by member groups of the Arkansas Arts Center. One award will be selected by the Mid-Southern Watercolorists. Three Art and the Written Word awards will be given by the Arkansas Arts Center Education Department to works that include words as part of the composition.
