'Dead Space 3' developer Visceral Games says rumors of franchise dying are false

News came out this morning that Electronic Arts, the publisher behind the "Dead Space" franchise, had cancelled the unannounced "Dead Space 4" thanks to last month's "Dead Space 3" not hitting it's projected sales figures. The original story is here.

It took only two hours for the franchise's developer, Visceral Games, to refute the rumor via Twitter and NeoGAF. One employee wrote on NeoGAF, saying the rumor is "completely false based on my knowledge.

Electronic Arts themselves have yet to refute the rumor however. They spoke with Kotaku, saying they don't comment on rumor or speculation. However they did say to Kotaku: "While we have not announced sales data for "Dead Space 3", we are proud of the game and it remains an important IP for EA."

That's a great sign for the future of "Dead Space". One could easily take EA's statement as though they would be up for giving the franchise a second chance. Then again it could just be them saving face until they can find a way to announce they're ending the franchise.

"Dead Space 3", which everyone should buy to help keep the franchise going, is currently available for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
