The election may be over, but the hostility from the side whose candidate won is curiously unabating. Almost immediately after the election results were announced Tuesday, the phrase “F**k white people” trended on Twitter, appearing in hundreds if not thousands of tweets. A day later, musical "artist" Beyonce charitably posted a photo of a handwritten note to her Tumblr account reading "Take that mitches," coining an oh-so-clever neologism based on the name Mitt and a word rhyming with hitches.
On Thursday, the party of civility struck yet again. The Mail Online reports that one apparently “sore winner” proved he is willing to bury the hatchet, but only in the GOP’s back. The unidentified cretin deposited a dead pig clad in a Mitt Romney T-shirt outside a Republican field office in a Los Angeles suburb.
The pig was discovered by passers-by early Thursday morning and removed by officials with animal control later in the day, according to ABC Los Angeles affiliate KABC. Police say they are investigating the incident as an "illegal dumping of an animal carcass" and are asking for the public’s help in locating the perpetrator. They are asking anyone with information to contact the Manhattan Beach Police Dept. at 310-802-5123.
One resident of the community who witnessed the display was Tom Scully, who was out walking his dog at around 6:30 a.m. "When I got closer,” he told reporters, “I was like, 'Oh, this is kind of gross. There was like barbed wire on its head. It's nasty."
Another local viewed the crime was symptomatic of the hyper-partisan political atmosphere: “That is representative of something that kind of turns me off to this whole political system and this recent election and how divided it's kind of made us all.”
In the final weeks leading up to the election, this column raised the question of whether there would be riots in the event Obama lost. He won, of course, but the question for some perverse and inexplicable reason still seems germane.
