Dead man walking

In today’s modern culture there is an affinity with death. One can not escape the vast array of productions (games/ movies/ tv programs) featuring Vampires, Zombies, death and horror. Hollywood has put forth a clear truth that Solomon reiterated through out the book of Ecclesiastes, and is the reason for preaching the Gospel "Dead men walking." Everyday we witness death, whether as an act of horrific violence (Oregon mall shooting) or accidental death (Caleb Moore’s- X Games competitor), or one who passes by natural cause (Ed Koch). Reality is, if one lives they will die, in that sense we see "Dead men walking"; the question is where will they spend eternity. In Mark 16:14-16 Jesus gave us "‘The Great Commission’ after He had risen. And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned." Through Romans 11:24-26 we learn that there is a set time/limit as Paul wrote "until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in." With this in mind we must consider that at any moment could be one’s last. We have a responsibility, and it is to preach the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ. But inasmuch we see the "dead walking" the Bible reveals those who are "alive and walking". John 5:24-25 records "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live." 2 Timothy 1:10 states "death is abolished in Christ" thus there is life for those who respond to His calling and the bible says in Romans 10:16-18 "But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: "Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world." Thus if none of us preach how can they, the "dead man walking" hear, one’s eternal destination hangs in the balance. Do not let another opportunity pass, to preach, to love or impact another’s life; it just might be their last. God Bless.
