Dead man wakes up: Mississippi's Walter Williams kicks his way back to life

One Mississippi man, who had been presumed dead, woke up in body bag just in time to prevent funeral home workers from embalming him, according to a Feb. 28 Mississippi WAPT ABC News report. Family members and even a coroner believed that 78-year-old Walter Williams had died at his home on Wednesday night. Williams’ nephew Eddie Hester told WAPT “I stood there and watched them put him in a body bag and zipped it up.”

Williams alerted Porter and Sons Funeral Home members by kicking inside the body bag as they prepped him for embalming. “I asked the coroner what happened, and the only thing he could say is that it's a miracle,” Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said

According to Indiana’s WTHR 13 News, the coroner believes Williams’ pacemaker may have stopped working and then restarted again. He was immediately transported to a hospital, where he remains alive.

"The mortician said something wasn't right. His leg started moving. I don't know how much longer he's going to grace us and bless us with his presence, but hallelujah, we thank him right now, right now!" Williams’ daughter Martha Lewis said.
