Runners, beware. A spooky interactive 5K is coming to Northern Illinois on Saturday, October 12. The Dead Last Zombie Run haunts the College of Lake County campus, with Zombies taunting Survivors along the race course.
Participants are registered as either Zombies or Survivors. At designated spots during the race, costumed Zombies will try to snatch flags from Survivors’ belts. Survivors may attempt to pick up extra flags at certain spots. The winning Survivor will finish the timed race with a remaining flag.
Entries may run or walk. Participants under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Proceeds from the Halloween season 5K, Grayslake’s first such run, will benefit the Grayslake Oasis Youth Center. Early registration closed October 9 for the Dead Last Zombie Run, but race-day entries may be accepted, if space allows.
Packet pickup is set for Friday, October 11, at the Grayslake Oasis Youth Center, located at 151 Hawley Street, in Grayslake. Race-day check-in opens at 1:30 p.m. on October 12, with the race starting at 3 p.m.
Spectators are also welcome at the Dead Last Zombie Run, to be held October 12 at 19351 West Washington Street, in Grayslake.
