DEAD END JOB

Day after day, it’s the same old thing. You go to your boring job, and perform the same old tasks, for five days a week; month after month, year after year. Your work life consists of a repetitive routine, with no deviation. You know a raise is out of the question right now. You obsessively watch the clock waiting for the lunch hour, knowing full well exactly what you are going to eat, and then continue the rest of your boring day until quitting time. Does this sound familiar?

Wait a minute !! It doesn’t have to be. You have a choice, whether you believe it or not ! When people are told how many hours in a year they spend at work, they are usually shocked. An employed individual spends an incredible amount of their life at work, so why not make it as enjoyable and interesting as possible.

A few suggestions are: Number one, if you don’t like your job, change it ! You could even start by changing job titles within your own corporation, or ask your boss could you volunteer a bit of your time to another department. See if your organization has an employee activity club, book club, or other organization of interest to employees. If you are good at a particular aspect of your job, why not ask the Human Resources Department about training other staff members. How about starting an employee newsletter? Another idea is to be the organizer of an employee-based fundraiser. If these possibilities don’t exist, you can always brush up on your resume and start looking for a more rewarding and interesting job. Again, your job does not have to be boring….the choice is yours.
