According to My Fox Tampa Bay News, two men who were fishing discovered the body of a small dog, attached to a cinder block, in a Winter Haven, Fla., canal on Thursday morning.

Police are hoping for leads in this case of animal cruelty, which took the life of an adult male Dachshund; the small black and brown dog was not neutered and a rope was tied around his neck.

Don Hill is one of the men who made the disturbing discovery - the dog was seen floating in the canal between Lake May and Lake Shipp. Hill told Fox Tampa Bay News:

We realized he was tied to something. This was no accident. He didn't drown, someone threw him in,"

He added:

I felt really bad. How could someone do that to an animal? I love animals. It’s horrible,"

It is estimated that the dog had been in the water for approximately 24 hours - anyone who has information is asked to contact the Winter Haven Police Detective Matthew Irvin or Detective Michael Roe at 863-401-2256.
