Dead birds found by the hundreds in Nashville and nearby counties
After reports of mass wildlife deaths around the world, this week hundreds of dead birds have been found in Nashville, Tennessee and nearby counties.
About 150 grackles were found dead on the side of the road in Wilson County, located just east of Nashville. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency told The Tennessean that the birds’ cause of death could not be determined due to deterioration.
The agency noted that hundreds more birds found in Montgomery County and Nashville, may have been a flock that flew into a bridge or some other object.
Reports of wildlife dying en masse have come from locations around the globe, including Arkansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Brazil, New Zealand, Sweden, Britain, and Italy.
The cause of the group deaths is still being investigated, however, authorities in Arkansas believe 5,000 birds died from trauma after being startled by fireworks, while experts theorize that sea life in Britain and New Zealand died due to record cold temperatures. Officials in Sweden believe the dead jackdaws died from external blows creating internal bleeding in the birds.
