Time is running out to see the first magnificent exhibition of paintings on loan from the Musée d’Orsay at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. The exhibition "Birth of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay" closes on Monday, September 6, 2010 (Labor Day). The second exhibition, "Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne and Beyond: Post-Impressionist Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay," opens to the public on September 25, 2010. Tickets for both exhibitions are timed and dated. The de Young is the only museum in the world to host both exhibitions.

Extended Hours for Final Weeks
Birth of Impressionism has extended hours on the following days through September 6:
• Thursdays—Impressionism at Twilight–open until 8:45 pm, last ticket at 7:30 pm
• Fridays—Friday Night at the de Young–open until 8:45 pm, last ticket at 7:30 pm
• Saturday, August 28—open until 8:45 pm, last ticket at 7:30 pm
• Sunday, August 29—open until 8:45 pm, last ticket at 7:30 pm
• Saturday, September 4—open until 8:45 pm, last ticket at 7:30 pm
• Sunday, September 5—open until 8:45 pm, last ticket at 7:30 pm
• Monday, September 6 (Labor Day)—open until 8:45 pm, last ticket at 7:30 pm

About the Exhibition
Birth of Impressionism includes nearly 100 paintings from the Musée d’Orsay’s permanent collection and highlights the work of 37 artists including William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Paul Cézanne, Gustave Courbet, Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley and James McNeill Whistler. The Musée d’Orsay is lending its most beloved paintings while it undergoes a partial closure for refurbishment and reinstallation in anticipation of the museum’s 25th anniversary in 2011.

Friday Nights at the de Young:

August 20–Cultural Encounters: Friday Night Soirées at the de Young and Alliance Française celebrate French culture with live music by Rue Manouche, Impressionism lecture by Dr. Jean Audigier and hands-on art making with Mademoiselle Kim.

Impressionism at Twilight, through September 2, offers discounted tickets, special café menu and extended exhibition viewing hours every Thursday evening, 5–8:45 pm (last ticket at 7:30 pm).
