DE Michael Johnson signs one-year tender with the Cincinnati Bengals (Photos)

After the Cincinnati Bengals franchised DE Michael Johnson on March 1, Johnson signed the Bengals one-year tender today. Johnson had a solid 2012 campaign and finished last season with 11.5 sacks, 52 tackles and 1 interception.

Johnson will begin his fifth year in the NFL. He also earned the NFLs AFC Defensive Player of the Week after finishing with 3 sacks against the Washington Redskins on September 23, 2012.

He has played in 64 regular season games the Bengals drafted him in 2009. Johnson’s ability to play in every game since entering the NFL has made him a dependable member of the Bengals defense. Johnson also started against the Houston Texans in last year’s playoffs. Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer and head coach Marvin Lewis have both praised Johnson for his abilities on the field.

Johnson is an excellent pass rusher and has made life difficult for opposing quarterbacks. Alongside DT Geno Atkins, the duo has made the Bengals one of the best defenses in the NFL. For more information about Johnson, visit the Bengals website.
