It was a homecoming of sorts for The Dallas Derby Devils on February 9, 2013, as their B-travel team Battalion of Doom topped the Wichita Falls Derby Dames’ Daughters of Anarchy, 273 – 204 in a bout held at Holiday Skatium in Haltom City, Texas.
Although they currently skate their home bouts at the larger NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills, DDD skated at Holiday Skatium in their early days.
For the Daughters of Anarchy, it was one of the most important bouts in their young history. With their league being barely 18 months old, they were now facing a team from the oldest league in North Texas. For the Battalion of Doom, it was a chance to prove their win a few weeks earlier over Assassination City was no fluke.
Wichita Falls put up a good fight, but ultimately the experience of DDD won out. Battalion of Doom skated out to a 50 point half-time lead, and then widened the gap in the second half.
An early 20-point jam from DDD’s Rhinestone Callgirl gave her team a lead they’d never relinquish. Callgirl led all scorers with an incredible 129 points, including four separate jams where she scored 20 or more points.
Other top scorers for the Battalion of Doom were Bo Toxin with 60 points and Animal Lee with 50. Bo, a four-year already known for her tenacity and ability to bounce back from the hardest hit, has shown a more aggressive style since joining the Battalion of Doom. Animal just wrapped up her rookie season, and has seen a rapid development of her skills since last season ended.
On the other side of the track, Nos Jamberlyn had a huge game with 64 points to lead the Daughters of Anarchy. Shoop a Starr was right behind her with 47 points, and Jagged Lil Kill had 35.
Both teams played a strong bout, and it was marked by some hard hitting. The Daughters of Anarchy duo of Becky Bulldoz-her and Twisted Armani opened up big holes for their jammers and delivered some punishing blows. For the Battalion of Doom, Reckless Vida, Bad Mo Flo, and Kimical Addiction returned the favor.
Wichita Falls kicks off their home season on Saturday, April 6, hosting the Oklahoma City Lightning Broads in the MPEC Exhibit Hall B, located at 1000 5th Street in Wichita Falls. Doors open at 5 pm, with the bout starting at 6 pm.
DDD’s home season opener is scheduled for April 13, but before that, they’re preparing to host the 3rd Annual Clover Cup, a 7-team tournament set for March 23 and 24 at NYTEX Sports Center, 8851 Ice House Drive, North Richland Hills, TX.
