DC will release these eight Blackest Night oneshots in January
There was some big DC news coming out of Baltimore last night.
Fresh off of the heels of a great Baltimore Comicon, all of the major publishers held on to the hotel room keys, left their suitcases unpacked, and stuck in town a few more days for the Diamond Retailer Summit.
Every year, Diamond Comic Distributors holds a massive gathering for all comic retailers to learn more about the business, attend workshops, and most importantly, get a preview of all the major things to come from the publishers so they know what to have in their shops.
Naturally, a lot of big announcements came out of the summit from Marvel, DC, and Image. Imagine all of the major scoops and teasers of SDCC, except only dealing with comics and none of the Hollywood glam that has bogged it down.
The big news out of DC was that the scheduled chapter of the epic mega-event Blackest Night would not ship in January. The reason given that the break was needed in order to ensure that artist Ivan Reis had plenty of time and energy to finish the oversized finale due out in March.
However, January will still see some major Blackest Night releases as the black rings are not only resurrecting dead heroes, but dead series as well. For one month only, DC will resurrect eight cancelled series in a collection of one shots that deal with the heroes of those books facing the current Blackest Night world of the DCU.
On the DC Source blog, Dan DiDio gave a list and breakdown of the eight series chosen:
"- POWER OF SHAZAM #48 Eric Wallace tells the tale in which Osiris returns from the dead to “chew the fat” with a very powerless Billy and Mary Batson.
- CATWOMAN #83 Fabian Nicieza has the original Black mask explaining to Selina why shooting him in the head was a bad idea.
- SUICIDE SQUAD #67 Gail Simone and John Ostrander are ringside for the epic fight between a very dead Suicide Squad and a possibly soon-to-be dead Secret Six.
- QUESTION #37 Greg Rucka has the one answer for when two Questions meet.
- PHANTOM STRANGER #42 Pete Tomasi reveals what Blackest Night means to the Phantom Stranger.
- WEIRD WESTERN TALES #71 Dan DiDio (weirdly talking about myself in the third person) lets you know what all the dead old west characters are doing in the new west today.
- ATOM AND HAWKMAN #46 Geoff brings you the double date from Hell, The Black Lantern Hawks work to reunite Atom with his long dead love, Jean Loring.
- STARMAN #81 James Robinson returns to the book he made great and visits some old haunts."
Make some room in your pull bag for these oneshots in January.
