DC Restaurant Week summer 2010 menus round-up.

Summer 2010 DC Restaurant Week Menus
Check out the Summer DC Restaurant Week Menus.

The 16th Annual DC Restaurant week will celebrated by over 200 D.C. area restaurants from August 16 - 22, 2010. See below for list of Summer 2010 RW Extensions and Menus. The prices are the same as Winter's Restaurant Week: Lunch: $20.10 for a three-course fixed-price meal. Dinner: $35.10 for a three-course fixed-price meal; Beverages, gratuity and tax are not included. DC Restaurant Week occurs twice a year usually during the slow restaurant season in the winter (usually January) and the late summer (usually August).

With so many restaurants participating, how does one chose where to dine? Well here are some tips from your resident native Washingtonian Restaurant week pro!  Remember, to get the most “bang” for your buck, choose really expensive restaurants with superior reputations. Restaurants that offer their full menu are considered the best deal, such as Dino, Jackson 20 in Old Town, Alexandria and the Passion Food Group restaurants. Those restaurants that offer prix fixe menus or pre-theatre menus all year long you can take advantage of anytime.

For Restaurant Week Masa 14 is opening the flood gates of opportunity by allowing diners to select one item from each section on the menu. I highly recommend the Hijiki seaweed–jicama salad with sesame / chayote / daikon sprouts (see photo on right)  and any of the innovative hand rolls.  The handrolls were much larger than traditional sushi rolls and are evidently are quite popular in Brazil. My favorite is the Crunchy shrimp / wasabi sauce / lettuce / crunchy rice. For dessert, Kaz makes a great Mango Panna Cotta.

ZENTAN Susur Lee Top Chef Calamari
Salt and Pepper Calamari. Photo by Lisa Shapiro

ZENTAN at the Donovan House Hotel: (Dinner only) Some of the dishes on ZENTAN's Restaurant Week 3 course dinner menu are very familiar to me. I went to ZENTAN for Winter's Restaurant week with a group of food bloggers. I have tried 3 of the dishes on the Summer Restaurant Week menu. The Salt and Pepper Calamari with chili smoked mayo (see photo on right) is not new on the menu -- it's offered on the regular dinner menu. The calamari is crispy on the outside and soft but not chewy on the inside. The Cantonese Skirt Steak with chili ponzu, hazelnuts, and wasabi mashed potato is one of Chef Susur Lee's signature dishes. It is a tender and flavorful steak but the RW portion isn't as large as you would expect for a main course. For dessert the Almond Panna Cotta with pineapple raspberry ravioli and passion fruit sauce. I have also had this dish before at Sushi Concierge, Trevor Corson's special sushi dinner. As always, I recommend going with more than one person and each person ordering a different dish and sharing to have the opportunity to try all of the dishes. ZENTAN is extending their restaurant week promotion from August 16th – 29th.
