DC Restaurant Week returns

The Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) has announced the dates for its upcoming winter DC Restaurant Week promotion. From Monday, February 4 to Sunday, February 10, area eaters will be able to enjoy the best that the region has to offer at incredible rates; three-course, prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus are priced at $20.13 and $35.13, respectively. The full list of participating restaurants is now available online. Now while I usually go on and on about my top picks, etc. I’m hoping that you’re catching on by now … here’s my DC Restaurant Week page with loads of info from previous best bets, picks, tips, menus, and more.

While the deal remains the same, the semi-annual event has taken on a new look for 2013. Along with a redesigned logo, which I think is really sharp, the 2013 Winter Restaurant Week has an updated website where diners can explore what Restaurant Week participating restaurants have to offer, view menus, and book their reservations online through a partnership with OpenTable.com. My only complaint, an old dog like myself finds it very difficult to see all of the participating restaurants at a glance. Having to sort through a dozen pages is cumbersome.

I’m super excited to see that Equinox restaurant is participating this time around. If you haven’t been in a while, it’s well worth a visit. Chef Todd Gray is celebrating another successful year – 14 and counting. Equinox doesn’t traditionally participate in DC RW, so I’m sure they will be booked up soon! You’ll be hearing a lot about the Grays soon around town, they have a new book coming out in the Spring: The New Jewish Table: Modern Seasonal Recipes for Traditional Dishes. Mazel! Speaking of Jewish fare, the brand spanking new DGS Delicatessen is participating also for the first time. I’ve heard great things already from Tom Siestema. He thinks it’s worth a visit, also! Double Mazel!

Welcome back Farmers Fishers Bakers in Georgetown, who is now open after their renovation/repairs from the flood. Never heard of LiLLiES Restaurant. Is that new? Seems to be more like a catering company with a storefront. Hmm… Is Lost Society new to DC RW also? I think so … I believe that the acclaimed chef Janis McLean is at the helm in the kitchen. In that case, it's a must-visit.

I love talking about the “newcomers”. There were a lot of newcomers for Summer 2012, so it’s a good list to review and go for Winter 2013 DC RW. They would have a handle on the volume, and perhaps be prepared for the hurried service (often a complain for diners).

Social Reform Kitchen and Bar with Private Caucus Rooms is sort of new. It’s a revamped space and updated concept. Woodward Table is definitely new. It’s chef Jeffrey Buben’s (of Vidalia and Bistro Bis) new concept in the old Potenza space. Buben opened the 140-seat restaurant to celebrate iconic regional cooking. I hope to check it out soon.

Bon Appetit!
