Mr. Theodore Geisel who will forever be known to millions of children all over the world as Dr. Seuss will be honored by the DC Public Library on March 2, 2013 with a 50 book reading marathon of his classic children's books.
Perhaps his most famous book is The Cat in the Hat which was written in 1956 and helped millions of children to read. Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904 and died on September 24, 1991. His pen name was Dr. Seuss and he was a writer, cartoonist, animator, book publisher, and artist. His most famous works are Horton Hears a Who! (1954); The Cat in the Hat (1957); How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1957); Green Eggs and Ham (1960) and The Lorax (1971).
Northeastern Oklahoma State University, one of the top teacher training schools in the nation, used one of Dr. Seuss books as the theme on a recent homecoming program. And Dr. Seuss was given his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6500 block of Hollywood Boulevard on March 11, 2004. The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, and The Lorax have all been made into successful Hollywood motion pictures.
The event in Washington on Saturday March 2, 2013, is an opportunity for parents to bring their children to an event that will honor Dr. Seuss on his 109th birthday and will also give children a chance to be exposed to works like Green Eggs and Ham, Oh, the places You'll Go!, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.
Dr. Seuss wrote over 60 books that have sold over 600 million copies. Publisher's Weekly listed the best selling children's books of all time and found that 16 of the top 100 best selling children's books were written by Dr. Seuss.
