DC announces arrival of 'Batman/Superman' ongoing series in Spring (Photos)

USA Today has exclusively revealed that writer Greg Pak (X-Treme X-Men) will be making his DC Comics debut by helming a new Batman/Superman ongoing series with artist Jae Lee later this year. Much like the original (ie, pre-Flashpoint) Superman/Batman series, the upcoming title will focus on telling the story of how the Man of Steel first crossed paths with Batman and will further explore their relationship in the New 52 Universe.

“We’ve been given the incredible opportunity to show these two icons meeting for the first time at this very early and raw stage in their careers,” Pak told USA Today. “Neither one of them has ever heard of the other guy.”

Fans may remember that, technically, Batman and Superman were strangers to each other when they first crossed paths in the New 52 Justice League series so it’ll be interesting to see how Pak works with the continuity that’s already been established. Either way, the stakes of working on a title featuring two of DC’s heavyweights are high for longtime friends (first-time collaborators) Pak and Lee.

“What would your reaction be if you saw a guy running around in a bat costume in the dead of night attacking people for the first time? And what would your reaction be if you met an alien who could crush steel in his bare hands for the first time?” says Pak. “These guys are going to have very different immediate impressions of each other than we’re used to seeing with these characters.”

There’s an element of danger to the book that I think is very real and very exciting.”
