Monday, cuts were made to team USA. John Wall, Bradley Beal and Paul Milsap got the ax bringing team USA down to 16 players. More cuts are in order as the team needs to be down to 12. Cutting Wall, Beal, and Milsap may catch some people by surprise while others could see it coming a mile away.
With the gruesome injury Paul George suffered during a team USA scrimmage in Las Vegas last week, NBA reps may be a little skeptical about encouraging players to participate in international play. While it’s great publicity for the NBA abroad, teams and players need to think about what could possibly be in store if a star player like Paul George goes down. George is likely to be out for most, if not the entire 2014-2015 season. With the loss of Lance Stephenson to the Charlotte Hornets, this is a huge blow to the Pacers push towards a championship title. As other teams in the Eastern Conference made significant improvements to their roster, the Pacers lose their best player.
Will Paul George be able to rebound from this injury or will he become another superstar that becomes plagued with injuries as many other like him have? Lets hope he takes a page out of Derek Rose's book and comes back as if he never lost a step. We'll just have to wait and see.
Will this change the way the league views participation in international competition? It’s great to watch team USA literally destroy competition while watching your favorite players join forces on the same team, it comes at the risk of players getting injured and ultimately altering the outcome of the NBA season.
