A Daytona Beach woman was injured Tuesday in an accident involving a Florida Highway Patrol car. FHP spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes says 33-year old Trooper Gabriel Keyes had stopped for a car that was backing up in the parking lot of the Walgreens at 2679 Atlantic Avenue shortly after 1:30 Tuesday afternoon. The FHP says as the trooper then proceeded in the parking lot and made a left turn into a parking space, the front left of the car struck the woman as she walked from a car in the lot, and she was “…knocked to the ground – but not run over.” Sgt. Montes says 97-year old Maria McEwen was transported to Halifax Medical Center with a serious leg injury, and the accident remains under investigation.
