Daytona Beach Police say they arrested a bank robbery suspect Friday morning following a hold-up at the SunTrust Bank on South Palmetto Street Thursday. A report on the Police Department website says 58-year old Ricky Lloyd West of Daytona Beach was arrested for Robbery with a Weapon. Police say an officer making motel checks Friday morning discovered that West was staying at a motel on North Atlantic Avenue, and had registered at the motel under his own name.
Suspect said to have shown hold-up note to friends
Daytona Beach Police say an arrest warrant for West had been obtained based on video from the bank, and results of a photo lineup. Detectives also said that they had information from people who know West, who said he showed them the hold-up note he planned to use in the robbery around two and a half hours prior to the incident. Daytona Beach Police Detectives say they also recovered several fingerprints from the crime scene at the bank, in addition to the hand-written hold-up note. Police say bank personnel also identified West from among a group of six white men in a photo lineup.
Suspect tracked down at local motel
Police reports say West entered the Suntrust bank Thursday and gave a teller a note which stated, “give me 800 $ I have a gun.” The teller counted out the $800, handed it to West, and he then left the bank. Video from the bank showed West leaving the area along Palmetto Avenue, according to police. Daytona Beach Police Officers, assisted by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, searched for West Thursday without success. However, an officer checking motels Friday morning discovered that West had checked-in at a local beachside motel. West was then arrested on the Robbery warrant, which included a $5000 bond.
