Daytona Police arrest Deltona man in fatal bicycle accident Wednesday

A 24-year old Deltona man has been arrested following a fatal traffic accident in Daytona Beach Wednesday. A report on the Daytona Beach Police website says Robert Thomas Johnson was charged Wednesday with Leaving the Scene of an Accident involving Death. Police say the accident happened at East International Speedway Boulevard near Oleander Avenue, on the beachside. The Police report says a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle in the outside lane of westbound International Speedway Boulevard, and the vehicle left the accident scene. Police say the bike rider, 22-year old Susan E. Thompson of South Daytona, was thrown from the bike in the accident and pronounced dead at the scene. Police said witnesses reported that the vehicle was a dark-colored Nissan SUV with a passenger mirror missing and likely having right front or passenger side damage to the vehicle. Police say they found the vehicle in the 600 block of Marion Street late Wednesday afternoon.
