The Daytona Duels qualifying races will move to primetime in 2014. Officials from Daytona International Speedway made the announcement Thursday prior to the start of this year’s twin qualifiers.
The 2014 Budweiser Duel At Daytona, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 20, will start under the lights and will be televised by FOX Sports Media Group.
"To earn a coveted starting spot in the Daytona 500, the stars of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will have to perform under the lights and in front of a primetime audience in the Budweiser Duel," Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said. "Moving the Budweiser Duel under the lights will add another dimension to Budweiser Speedweeks."
The qualifying races are only staged during NASCAR’s season opener at Daytona and are used in conjunction with the qualifying speeds set the prior Sunday. Only the front two qualifying positions are locked in, the rest of the field’s starting lineup is based primarily where they finish in the 60 lap, 150 mile races.
