Daytona Bike Week is rolling along with some new additions

Daytona Bike Week is officially off and running to start the 2014 riding season with a couple high profile additions to the lineup.

First is the news out of Milwaukee there are two new bikes available: Dyna Low Rider and Sportster SuperLow 1200T. The Motor Company is promising that the new version of the Low Rider rides even lower and is "unruly and unrivaled when it comes to down to getting dirty and down".

The Low Rider has always been a fantastic ride for motorcyclists that prefer the power of the cruisers but the nimbleness of a bike that is a couple hundred pounds less in weight and crazy low center of gravity of ease of riding. There will be more news on this front in the near future after some test rides from yours truly.

In other news, motorcycle attorney Russ Brown has been named as an official sponsor of Daytona Bike Week and Russ's team couldn't be happier about this new development.

Daytona Bike Week has been a tradition since January 24, 1937—the first year of the Daytona 200. The inaugural Daytona 200 race took place on the beach and Ed Kretz was the first winner on his Indian motorcycle. These races continued from 1927 to 1941 and were also known as the Handlebar Derbies. These races were briefly discontinued from 1942-1946 for World War II, but resumed again in 1947 when the race featured a record 176 riders.

In 1948, a new beach and road course was used to accommodate more riders and to avoid developments along the beach. The last Daytona 200 to be held on the beach took place in 1960, and in 1961, the race was moved to the Daytona International Speedway.

Today, Daytona Bike Week has evolved into a 10-day festival that goes way beyond motorcycle racing—and Daytona. The festival itself expands throughout Volusia County and there are hundreds of motorcycle events to enjoy. Annually, the Daytona Bike Week welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors, tourists, and motorcyclists and is a legendary event.

With this rich history at Daytona, it's easy to understand why Russ Brown would want to be involved. This hard core advocate of motorcyclists rights launched the BAM program which is free to join and provides free emergency breakdown and legal assistance to motorcyclists nationwide.
