It is not too early to plan a trip to Daytona Beach, Florida for what is arguably the official start of the riding season – Daytona Bike Week. This year marks the 71st anniversary of this iconic event and the dates to put on the calendar are March 9-18, 2012.
Bike builds and bike shows, wet tee shirts and bike blessings, slaw wrestling and free food, vendors and swap meets, bands and beer, racing and demo rides, parades and more – all are listed on the official Bike Week website.
Once again this year, the events will take place all over Volusia County from Ormond Beach down to Oak Hill and from along the Atlantic Ocean to westward as far as Deland.
A check of accommodations for the Daytona Beach area still shows some motel rooms available, even for the downtown Daytona Beach and on the beach. One can expect to pay from just under $100 per night to upwards of $200 or more per night depending on the property and the proximity to the event venues. There are also campgrounds in the area with primitive tent sites for as low as $35 a night.
