Dayton edges Crosby 3-2

The Dayton Broncos edged the Crosby Cougars 3-2 on Tuesday night in Dayton moving to 8-2 on the season. Te game featured two of the best pitchers in southeast Texas, Dayton junior righthander Kevin Roe and Crosby lefty Tyler Davenport.

Davenport was shaky to start the game and Dayton made him pay scoring three runs on two hits. Meanwhile Dayton's trio of hurlers Roe, Bradley Sowell, and Timothy Wehmeyer pitched their way in and out of trouble including a runners on second and third with two out in Crosby's final at bat.

After the first, Davenport allowed just two runners the rest of the way. Blake Schmidt reached on an error in the bottom of the third and Bryce Armstrong walked to lead off the home half of the fifth. Davenport finished the night with surrendering 3 runs on two hits with 14 strikeouts.

Roe reorded his third win of the season going five innings with one earned run.

Sowell relieved Roe in the sixth before giving way with one out in the seventh to Wehmeyer. Wehmeyer entered with runners at first and second with one down. After inducing the first batter to ground out advancing the runners to second and third with two down, Whemeyer struck out the final Cougar batter.

Dayton improved to 8-2. The Broncos face C.E. King on Tuesday March 5 in Sheldon. Fisrt pitch is slated for 6PM.
