Dayton edges Crosby 2-1

Dayton's Presley Bell outdueled Crosby's Abby Walker in a thrilling 2-1 decision in front of a packed house at Crosby High School on Friday night, February 21, 2014.

Walker who struck out 12 and scattered four hits over seven innings was bested by Bell, the Broncos hard throwing righthander. Bell struck out 17 over seven innings and allowed only a one out fifth inning single to Crosby third baseman Alexis Balderrama.

Amanda McMahan scored in the first on a on a wild pitch from Bell. McMahan had reached on a dropped third strike, stole second, advnaced to third on another dropped third strike and then raced home on a wild pitch. Kaitlin Stebelton, courtesy runner for Ariel CLogston was thrown out at te plate to end the inning.

Bell held Crosby in check until the Broncos got to Walker in the sixth. Shortstop Ravin Wilson stroked a 1-2 pitch into rightfield for a lead-off single, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Bell and scored on a Chelsea Hostetler rbi single. Dixie Vernuil running for Hostetler scored the game winner on a Shelby Robbins' rbi single.

Crosby (5-5) dropped a one run decision for the fourth time this season.

Both teams return to District 19-4A action Tuesday, February 25, 2014. The Lady Cougars will travel to Summer Creek for a 6p.m. contest in Humble while Dayton hosts C.E. King in a 6:15p.m.
