Dayto clinches share of District 19-4A title with 8-3 win over Summer Creek

Dayton right-hander Jerry Maddox hurled his sixth complete game of the season leading the Broncos to an 8-3 win over visiting Summer Creek on Thursday night April 17, 2014. The win on senior night gave Dayton at least a share of the District 19-4A title with one week left in the season.

After spotting Summer Creek a 1-0 first inning lead, the Broncos answered back with three of their own. Conner Green got things started ripping a single into right field off Summer Creek starter Kam Wheeler. Jordan Trahan, Tristan Baughman and Tim Wehmeyer then delivered rbi hits giving Dayton a 3-1 lead.

Shortstop Blake Schmidt and Greenadded rbi hits in the second padding the Broncos lead to four.

Dayton added another tally in the fourth with an Austin Riche lead-off single, a double by Schmidt and an error by Bulldogs shortstop Tyler Griffin.

Summer Creek cut the deficit in half in the visitor's fifth inning with a Matt Buenrostro two run shot over the left field wall.

Leading 6-3, the Broncos scored twice in the sixth stringing together rbi hits from second baseman Brad Sowell and Green.

Green finished the night reaching base in all four plate appearances including three hits, two rbi's and a run scored.

Maddox struck out six; improving his record to 8-0.

Dayton (18-4, 12-4) have the week off while Summer Creek (13-10, 8-6) travels to Barbers Hill on Tuesday night and then concludes their district season at home on Friday April 25, 2014 against the Eagles. First pitch for both games are slated for 6p.m.
