Daytime television news: France bans Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears

In a country where full frontal nudity is common in television commercials, how did Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears manage to become banned from French daytime TV?

The Huffington Post reported on Jan. 10 stating the two celebrities are just way too sexy for France’s daytime television program viewers. This ban specifically targets their videos. These music videos with their adult content seem to be the cause of this controversial decision. Britney Spears in her “Work B-tch” video and Miley Cyrus with her “Wrecking Ball” video specifically!

The scenes in Miley’s video are described as too sexually explicit for minors to view. Her video won’t be allowed to be broadcasted during daytime hours because seeing Miley swinging naked and tonguing tools is not appropriate for children.

Britney Spears’ video has been placed under the same scrutiny describing it as “a sadomasochistic universe representing women in a way that risks shocking many viewers” due to her dress portraying bondage.

The CSA – Conseil Superieur de l'Audiovisuel made their ruling so that these two videos can only be broadcast after 10:00 p.m. to make daytime television suitable for all ages. It seemed that some stations or channels that were airing these videos did so without airing the parental guidance warnings. Now the message is clear and underage viewers won’t be privy to this type of content.

Were you shocked when you watched these videos?
