Daytime Emmys 2014: Ceremonies live-streamed instead of broadcast TV

Once upon a time soap operas were the equivalent to today’s primetime reality TV shows. Now the Daytime Emmy Awards were reduced to being streamed Sunday night. Live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the ever unpredictable award host, Kathy Griffin, was able to let loose on her monologue and introductions without network censorship.

These Emmys were given out to not only soap operas. Talk shows, cooking programs, game shows, and morning programs were also acknowledged. Several awards were handed out for Spanish-speaking programs and talent.

Steve Harvey was the big winner of the night with his wins for outstanding game show host, “Family Feud,” and his own self-titled informative talk show, “Steve Harvey.”

Not at all surprising was “The Young and the Restless” soap opera domination. They came in with 26 nominations and went out with four of the major categories including: Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor (Billy Miller), and Outstanding Supporting Actress (Amelia Heinle), and for its special tribute episode to the late Jeanne Cooper.

Not only did the U.S. Men’s National Team at the World Cup end up in a tie, there were two separate ties at the Daytime Emmys. Outstanding Entertainment News Show for “Entertainment Tonight” on CBS, and the syndicated “Extra.”

Dr. Oz and Katie Couric tied for outstanding talk show hosts for their shows “The Dr. Oz Show,” and “Katie.” Here is the full list of winners from the 41st Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmys Awards:
