During the Wednesday, November 30 episode of Days of Our Lives, while searching for clues as to why Alice and Stefano share a past history, Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) came across a letter written by EJ DiMera's mother, Susan Banks. In the letter, she asked Alice to help contact a doctor to treat Baby Elvis, but not to let Stefano know. Any soap fan worth the grains of sand in their hourglass knows you don't usually mention a former character unless their about to make a return to the show. That's right, Susan Banks, arguably Days of Our Lives zaniest character, in headed back to Salem after a thirteen year absence.
Longtime DAYS fans will surely remember Susan's storylines, as well as Eileen Davidson, the actress who created the role, along with multiple others including Susan's evil sister Kristen, sister Penelope Kent, sister Sister Mary Moira, and even brother Tommy.
For years, it's been rumored that DAYS' producers have been trying to woe Davidson away from her longtime gig as Ashley Abbott, from both The Young and The Restless andThe Bold and The Beautiful, but that isn't happening. Instead, DAYS is turning to another soap veteran, Brynn Thayer to bring EJ's mom back to Salem.
Texas native Thayer first gained popularity with daytime viewers back in 1978 when she starred for ten years as Jenny Wolek Renaldi on ABC's One Life to Live. Following her exit from OLTL, Thayer appeared in a handful of one off TV roles and several made-for-TV movies. In 1988, she landed her first primetime series role in the single-season series, TV 101. Island Son, another now-forgotten series was next in 1989, then more TV movies and guest appearances. Those lead to a recurring role on Matlock from 1991-1994. A stint as Kylie Quinlan on General Hospital in 1994 saw a brief return to daytime TV. Thayer continued to act during the late 90s and early 2000 with yet another series, Pensacola: Wings of Gold and more than a dozen more roles on everything from Felicity and Strong Medicine to Monk and last year's Jerry O'Connell/Jim Belushi lawyer drama, The Defenders. Thayer's first air date is set for December 7. With Susan returning, rumor has it we'll also be seeing sister Kristen back on the scene. Who better to come between Marlena and John than his one-time love, Kristen?
