Massey’s original plan was to exit the soap when his contract expired at the end of this year. But unfortunately, the final decision was out of the actor’s hands.
The real drama began in the press room at last June’s Daytime Emmy Awards. Massey had just taken home his second win. It was then that the actor announced to the press that he would be leaving the soap when his current contract was up.
According to Michael Logan, Massey’s ‘early exit’ from the show last month was payback from the higher ups at ‘Days.’ It seems Massey’s announcement that he would leave the show in December ‘blindsided’ them. And for that reason, they decided to surprise the actor with an unexpected early departure.
‘I'm actually glad things went down the way they did. I appreciate the producers for letting me out of my deal early because I can now pursue other opportunities I couldn't under contract. And, really, I want what's best for the show and the character. I'm honored to have played Will's coming-out story, and really proud of the Will and Sonny romance. It's important that they pass the torch to another actor and continue the story,’ Massey told TV Guide.
Clearly, we haven’t seen the last of this talented young actor.
