Dayne Savage powers Caribou to Eastern Maine championship game

BANGOR-- Dayne Savage put the Caribou Vikings on his back and took them to the Eastern Maine championship game.

Savage scored 32 points, including 22 in the second half to lead the Vikings to a 58-39 victory over Hermon in a Maine Principals' Association class B semifinal game on Wednesday afternoon.

Savage scored six first quarter points as the Vikings jumped out to a 14-4 lead.

Caribou held Hermon without a field goal until Tyler Thayer put in a jumper with 7:10 remaining in the second quarter.

The Vikings held a 22-15 halftime lead.

Savage scored 10 points in the third quarter, including a three pointer at the end of the quarter to give Caribou a 38-27 lead going into the final quarter.

Matthew Milliard added 11 points for the Vikings.

Caribou (17-4) will take on Old Town in the class B final on Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings and Coyotes split during their two games in the regular season.

Tyler Thayer led the Hawks with 26 points.

Hermon finishes with a 12-9 record.
