When do we turn the clocks back, when does daylight saving time end? When do we “fall back” and turn the clocks back an hour?

As we approach the weekend, some folks were confused and are asking when we change the time this year.

Turn the clocks back an hour before you go to bed on Saturday, November 2. Daylight saving time officially ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2013.

(By the way, it is officially called daylight saving time, even though most people call it daylight "savings" time, with an "s" on saving.)

Didn’t daylight saving time used to end earlier, before Halloween?

Yes, but in 2007, the United States extended daylight saving time with the goal of saving energy by allowing for more daylight in the afternoon. The real energy savings is a matter of debate but there is no push to bring it back the old daylight savings schedule any time soon.

Many parents preferred the old daylight saving time schedule so that they could take their kids out trick or treating when it is dark but still relatively early in the evening, especially on years like this when Halloween falls on a school night.

Will bars stay open later for the daylight saving time change? That story is here.

But once again, don't forget to set the clocks back before you go to bed on Saturday night, November 2, 2013, when daylight saving time comes to an end.

Remember to turn your clocks back tonight, Saturday, November 3, 2012, before you go to bed, daylight saving time ends 2 a.m. Sunday, November 3, 2013.
