Day Z, the incredibly popular zombie survival modification spawned from 2009's "ARMA 2: Operation Arrow Head" has finally released a stand alone alpha build for players who want early access. With a buy-in of $30 (caulked up as an early access payment for the final product), over 172,000 players purchased the title within the first 24 hours of release.
Now a new year and roughly 3 weeks later, Bohemia Interactive has released year to date sale numbers: 400,000 copies. Impressive to say the least, and if not, note that this is an alpha build that is not nearly a representation of the final product.
Still not impressed? These sales numbers (of an unfinished product) equate to $12 million in revenue from a title that will be more of an exercise in patience and frustration than an actual solid gaming experience until further updates are made to the build.
Regardless, it's a true testament of how a solid idea can rightfully gain support, trust and passion from a fan base that’s hearts the series has captured. Have you been playing the Day-Z alpha?
