Day IV wrap
The last of the "learning" practices has come and gone. Tomorrow, out come the pads and the collisions. Meanwhile, the Raiders had another day of getting their fundamentals down with half speed practices, and plays that did not complete.
Al Davis attended his second practice today, and he appeared to give an earful to both Tom Cable and wide receiver coach Sanjay Lal. First round pick wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was also part of the discussions.
It was unknown what was said, but it was an animated conversation that lasted for quite a while. Apparently, there was something that Davis was not happy about going on. Whether this was could be seen as either "Al's classic meddling" or "Al still has it" depends on one's view of the NFL icon.
- Nick Miller has been a bit of a camp sensation thus far. He has been catching the few balls that have been thrown thus far in camp. He has also been second team on the return drills. He has even been seen lining up in the backfield. He is undersized at 5'9" 180, but could find his way on to the practice squad.
- JaMarcus Russell looked good in his passing on the few times he was allowed to throw. He threw a rainbow that Darren McFadden ran under but could not hold on to, resuting in a drop. Russell has been much more accurate than he was in the earlier camps, which is a good sign.
- Javon Walker has been seen mentoring younger receivers. Most recently, the Florida State star was seen coaching up Florida product Louis Murphy.
- Despite being cut, Danny Southwick is still lingering around camp as an intern throwing practice passes. He is beginning to look like a candidate for the practice squad.
- The Raiders have been working on their goal line and two minute situations. Neither of those situations have tended to go well in the past few years.
