Day two of Quaker Day Festival and parade helps to usher in the fall season

Plainfield, IN - Despite a slight chill in the air and the occasional gust of wind, Saturday, October 1, ended up being a pleasant day to participate in day two of the 32nd Annual Quaker Day Festival hosted by the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce.

At 10am on Saturday, the festival was started off by the Quaker Day Parade.  Beginning and ending at the Plainfield Middle School on Stafford Road and coursing through neighborhood streets, parade onlookers were met by floats created by local businesses as well as new and old vehicles and farm equipment, horses, and entertainment provided by cheerleaders, martial arts students, and Zumba dancers.  Children were also excited to scramble for the candy that was very plentiful throughout the entire parade.

When the parade ended, many of the onlookers took a short walk or drive to downtown Plainfield to stop off for lunch at the Plainfield Friends Meeting building and to browse the many vendors set-up on the church's front lawn.  Local vendors displayed everything from home-baked goodies, crafts, and activities hosted by charity organizations.  And if your fancy was to look at cars, there was enough room on the front lawn for a car show, which many people enjoyed.  Entertainment was also provided throughout the day.

This year's festival was expanded to encourage people to venture to Plainfield's Youth Athletic Complex two blocks west of the Plainfield Friends Meeting building.  Festival goers were able to visit more craft booths and local vendors as well as take the kids for rides at a carnival.

Proceeds from the festival will be donated to help fund the Plainfield Youth Athletic Complex's Miracle Field, which is a synthetic-surface facility that enables physically challenged youth and adults on the field of play.
