Experience a must-see attraction when visiting the state of Florida this summer. The Kennedy Space Center offers visitors a chance to see how the space program changed the world, affected the local communities and set us on a path into our future. The Kennedy Space Center is located in the heart of Florida’s Space Coast, along the eastern portion of the state.
This one-of-a-kind attraction experience showcases just how space travel has been a significant part of the world’s history and the distance from the Vero Beach area, makes it a great day-trip option. Located approximately one and one-half hours away from the Treasure Coast, Kennedy Space Center has everything an aspiring astronaut, historical enthusiast or anyone else who wants to experience something different should see. All within a single location.
When planning a day-trip to Kennedy Space Center, add in some extra time to allow for grabbing some breakfast along the way. Plan to arrive at Kennedy Space Center before 10 a.m. This should give you enough time to experience and see everything the center has to offer.
Kennedy Space Center offers a variety of different exhibits, including those that offer hands-on learning experiences. Current exhibits include:
- Space Shuttle Atlantis
- Launch Experience - live through a simulated launch to see what astronauts experience during an actual launch
- Angry Birds Space Encounter
- Lunch with an Astronaut (there is an additional charge for this experience)
- Astronaut Training Experience
- IMAX Theater
- Apollo/Saturn V Center
- Exploration Space: Explorers Wanted
- Astronaut memorial
- Children’s Play Dome
- Early Space Exploration - see exhibits about the first manned flights
- Robot Scouts
Tours of the facility are also available. The KSC Up-Close Tours are available at an additional charge and include tours of launch pads, launch control and the Vehicle Assembly Building.
If time permits, but chances are it probably will not, head on over to the Astronaut Hall of Fame for some more out of this world excitement. Or you can plan to make another day trip later this summer.
As you can see, there are plenty of things to do while visiting the Kennedy Space Center. It is obvious that there is something for everyone. No matter how young or old. So the next time you have a day off this summer, make plans to head on up to see some amazing exhibits and have an out-of-this-world experience.
