Day of savings

When I encounter a sale, I feel lucky. When I have a day of savings, I’m on cloud nine.

My “day of savings” began at Visible Changes in the West Oaks Mall in Houston, TX. I felt that it was time for a change. (It has been over a year since my last haircut.)

Grant, my new go-to hairdresser, was phenomenal! He went through every cut, explaining what I was doing to damage my hair and how I should style my new locks.

And the best part? It only cost me $35.

Because I went with my mother and June was her birthday month, she received $15 off of her haircut. $20 for a hip, new style? The day of savings had begun…

Next it was off to the Clinique booth in Macys. I was in search of some new BB cream and a lipstick. (I am in a wedding next weekend and I wanted to make sure my lip color popped.)

I found the perfect shade for my lips, crushed berry lip liner and glazed berry lipstick. I also found a BB cream that gave me full coverage without looking cakey. (I purchased shade 02.)

Although these were not on sale, the sales associate threw in a gift bag from a promotion they had last weekend. My mom and I both received a gift bag with a makeup remover, moisturizing lotion, lipstick and eye shadow.

With our receipts, we also received a 20% coupon. And we couldn’t just let a good coupon go to waste now could we…

I found a Gianni Bini purse, originally priced at $118 on sale for $27. And my Mom found a Lenox cake platter, originally $100 on sale for $44. With our coupon, it came to $35.

Then we headed to bargainista’s heaven, aka the Dillard’s outlet in West Oaks Mall. Every week there is a new sale (which begins on Tuesday.) And to our luck… they just restocked.

This week’s deal includes 60% off dresses and 30% off shoes. At this Dillard’s, all of these sales are on top of already reduced items.

(Side note: This is also where I purchased the bridesmaid dresses for my wedding. They were originally $200 on sale for $29.)

Today I found four dresses that would blend perfectly in my wardrobe. The first was a Michael Kors navy dress originally priced at $175. I purchased the dress for $24.50.

The next dress was an Antonio Melani (one of my favorite designers) that was $159 on sale for $22.26. It is not only figure flattering but was also lined, one of my go-to requirements for dresses.

I also purchased a classic black wrap dress from Leslie Fay, originally priced at $88 on sale for $12.32 and a Cremieux resort dress (perfect for the upcoming wedding rehearsal dinner) originally priced at $129 on sale for $18.06.

But wait, there’s more…

From one of my favorite shoe designers, Gianni Bini, there was a pair of black and gold heels I just had to have. Originally the shoes were $80; I purchased them for $23.80.

Although we could have stopped there, my Mom wanted to go to Walgreens to get items for next weekend. (She is also going to the wedding.)

All of the items we purchased were buy one get one 50%. In our basket were two mascaras, buffing blocks, cotton balls, nail polish remover and nail polish.

When we got to the checkout our price of $30, which seemed pretty reasonable. But then we learned we could use our Walgreens points, which brought the total to $20.

And our day of savings came to a close.

The numbers:
Original retail: $1023.03
We spent: $316.03
We saved: $707

That’s a 69% savings!

There is no shame in using coupons and searching for great deals… who knows what you can come out with.

Happy Shopping!
