Pope Francis declared that Saturday, September 7 should be a day of fasting and prayer for Syria. September 7 is also the vigil of the feast day of our Blessed Mother, Mary. It is hoped by Pope Francis that prayer and fasting will bring some peace to the country, Syria.
Pope Francis spoke adamantly on Sunday that war should be out of the question. He said that war and violence doesn't do any good. In the end, it only gives us more war, violence and casualties.
The top American officials that are pushing to go to war are all members of the Catholic Church. John Kerry is a number one advocate about the war. However, this is no surprise since he also favors abortion rights - a definite opposition to the Catholic Church.
Just try to remember on Saturday, especially, to pray and fast for the Middle East. Fasting means to eat less or skip meals during the day as a sign of wanting peace. Prayer is a long or short conversation with God.
Sample prayer -
"Please God bring peace to Syria and all over the Middle East. Lay down the weapons and violence. Bring conversation and resolution before anymore innocent people are killed."
