Day four at the Haitian Christian Mission 3/8/11

There was so much to be excited about on Tuesday. Everyone was very tired but one-hald worked at the Clinic and one-half went across the lake in small boats to visit Port of Doom to set up a mobile clinic. (See From the 21st Century to the 19th and Back from previous trip.)

The people from FAME who remained at the Haitian Christian Mission saw a relatively small number of patients, but that allowed for a miraculous event. Angie, a nurse who is a college professor, and two of her nurses, Amber and Maria, delivered a baby at the Clinic Hospital.

In Haiti a physician doesn't normally deliver children--a midwife does. Today the midwife stood by in case she was needed, but allowed the nurses to help a mother bring forth her baby.

One of the nurses had just gotten some devestating news from home and the reality of bringing a new life into the world brought everything into focus. All three nurses sobbed with joy. New life after tragedy--not a bad trade.
