Two day care workers were fired after mocking children that they cared for. On Aug. 21, CNN reported that the workers posted photos of the children on Instagram and then posted mean things as captions. The parents of the kids found the photos and immediately took action.
"If you don't genuinely love and care for children, and if it's not a passion of yours, this isn't something that you should be involved in. If you think it's funny that a child is delayed or if they're not perfect or they have shortcomings, if that's a joke to you or something that you think you should tease about, that's not a job for you," said one mom, Melissa Jordan.
The day care workers fired made fun of a couple of kids from the center. One kid was mocked because of he had delayed speech and another child was made fun of because his front teeth stuck out. Moms were simply outraged, comparing the comments to bullying. While some things might be said as "jokes," posting things like this on social media sites is really uncalled for.
The day care center has apologized to the parents and they feel that by firing the two workers involved, they have shown where they stand on issues like this.
After the day care workers were fired, the Virginia Department of Social Services began an investigation. It is ongoing.
