Day 9: Paris to London
Enjoy your last croissant and espresso before heading to the Gare du Nord and onto the Eurostar train bound for London. Don't forget to grab some sweets before you leave Paris! If you missed the article about purchasing your Eurostar tickets, it is not too late! Check it out here.
After two hours on the train, and transportation to your hotel, it is time to drop off your luggage and stretch those legs! You have seen some of the bigger tourist sites, so now its time to tour a bit more like a local. Markets, brunches, theater, and sporting events are all on the line up.
London Theater: Today you can take in an early theater showing of your choice. It is wise to pre-order tickets online if you can, or purchase them from the box office once in London. Beware of scalpers; they are everywhere in London. It is not worth it to purchase a deeply discounted ticket only to find out it’s a fraud. The best way to purchase legit discount tickets is to get them either on the day of the performance or up to a week ahead, at either the Leicester Square or Brent Cross ticket booths. London productions vary in range from beloved classics and musicals to newer thought-provoking plays. Some of these amazing productions have inspired movies, such as “War Horse” while others have been inspired by movies like “Shrek” the musical (complete with a dragon that flies over the audience) and “Matilda.” Of course you will always find productions like “Les Misérables” (the longest running musical in the West End), “Chicago,” “Billy Elliot” and “Mama Mia.” If you're lucky, you might even catch a famous television or film actor headlining.
Whatever your interest, the London theater district has you covered. Only New York’s Broadway can begin to rival London’s theater prowess. To learn more about the productions listed above, click on their name to be directly linked to their London homepage. To learn about what other musical productions will be playing while you are visiting London, visit the London Theatre website, for all other types of productions chek out this link.
After your matinee, you will surely be parched and famished, so head to an early dinner. Tonight, since you are probably near SoHo anyway, try Busaba Eathai —a trendy, well priced, Thai restaurant that delivers. To everyone who says English food is bland, you clearly haven’t gone ethnic. After dinner, explore the SoHo area and Chinatown. The Chinese food is excellent, but since you've already eaten head over there for the experience. It is a beautiful and unique part of town. Afterwards, enjoy a walk back through the city to your hotel for a long nights sleep.
Up next: a visit to London Markets.
