Today's pick for day nine is "The Town That Dreaded Sundown." The film was released in 1976, it was directed by, Charles B. Pierce and starred Ben Johnson, Andrew Prine, and Dawn Wells. Pierce, the director was also in the film too.
The plot of the movie is based off of the real murders that happened between February and May of 1946. The murderer was locally dubbed, "The Phantom Killer." The murders occurred around Texarkana.
The film itself while claiming that only the names have been changed in the movie, is much of a fictional embellishment obviously. So either way, it's still a terrifying movie because of it's plot and well, real back story. It's a chilling movie that is an example of an early slasher film.
So this horror flick that is based on a real life unsolved crime in the 40s, is today's pick for 31 days of classic horror.
