Day 7 of National Poetry Month

Are you a poet? Do you want to be? April is National Poetry Month. Write a poem a day is the mandate (see NaPoWriMo) along with other suggested poetic activities. See poetry.org for suggestions) .

NaPoWriMo has so far suggested

  1. write a poem that has the same first line as another poem
  2. a poem that tells a lie
  3. write a sea shanty (or chanty, or chantey)
  4. write a poem with a title drawn from one of the Iain-M-Banks-like spaceship names
  5. write a cinquain
  6. write a valediction - a poem of farewell
  7. write a poem where each line except the last takes the form of a single, declarative sentence. Then, the final line should take the form of a question

Catch up or just jump in today with 7, or tomorrow with 8. You can link your blog to NaPoWriMo at their participant's sites page.

If you are on Facebook you can take a look at the National Poetry Month Page.

If you are in the Bay Area and want a place to read your poems try the various California Writers Club branches and look for their open mic nights.
