For today's pick for 25 days of classic Christmas movies we're going a little bleak and a little Christmas with "Christmas Holiday." This one is picked for all the film noir fans out there and the Gene Kelly ones. Gene Kelly though isn't such a nice guy in this one, which makes it all the more fun to see.
"Christmas Holiday," is a 1944 film noir about a young woman (Deanna Durbin) with her own past, who falls for a G.I. (Gene Kelly) on leave during the holidays. All is well until she finds out he's kind of a thug and a jerk, so once he gets in trouble with the law, she runs from her past but like many films like this, her past catches up to her. This little known film was called one of the bleakest during it's time.
"Christmas Holiday," was directed by Richard Siodmark and was based on the 1939 book that was written by W. Somerset Maugham.
This one is interesting because both actors in it, didn't really make many of these kind of movies and that's why it deserves to be on this Christmas list. Movie Jewel Classics shared "Christmas Holiday" on their YouTube page, so check it out! Remember this one is not going to cheer up your holidays, but if you're in noir well you already new that.
