With closed eyes and a simple naked ear to the sound, tone and style, one might almost confuse this artist’s album as a reincarnated version of Brandy. Humbled by surprise, the voice so similar in these elements is of vocalist, Dawn Richard. Dawn was a former member of the "Diddy" assembled group Danity Kane. Dawn is no stranger to the business, but has not surfaced as an artist in the spotlight. Her most recent album release in January, titled Goldenheart, is a beautiful joining of artistry with soulful melodies. There is a hint of Jill Scott in her approach to share a bit of her personal perspective. These short monologues share a bit of her person with the listener, similar to that of a poet's style. Overall, Dawn Richard's album, Goldenheart, is crowned with the "sizzle" status; awarded for successfully taking this listener into her world.
Reviewer's corner:
As I delve more into the music industry, providing my perspective, I find pure joy in not reviewing what the charts are telling me is “hot”. No, it’s those artists like Dawn Richard for which we must dig and search to discover talents. The beauty in doing this is the joy that comes from the pure beauty in art. It is that art that is left behind when everyone is listening. When the artist has that hunger is when creative genius will surface. Unfortunately, that happens most-often when no one is looking.
