On Wednesday, December 18 posted the first trailer for the 20th Century Fox film "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," which will be released in theaters this summer. The film is the highly anticipated sequel to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," which was released in 2011 and followed a genetically evolved ape who causes mischief in San Francisco. The trailer is just over one and a half minutes long and the synopsis for the film is listed below:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

The trailer opens with many sweeping shots of the forest and abandoned building before Gary Oldman's voice explains that humans have been fighting the virus for years and then started a war amongst themselves. Nearly ten years have passed since Caesar escaped and only a handful of humans survived. There are shots of armored ranks, explosions and people shooting automatic weapons.

Someone ventures into the forest and asks to speak to Caesar before the ape's face is revealed. Caesar has aged and is no longer the happy ape from the first film. He is still in charge and the camera pulls back from his face to reveal dozens of apes waiting for Caesar's command to attack. The voiceover continues and mentions how humans should reclaim the world they lost.

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" was directed by Matt Reeves and will arrive in 3D, IMAX and IMAX 3D theaters on July 11, 2014. Several character posters were also released for the film, which show several of the other apes that will be central to the new story. The film also stars Keri Russell, Jason Clarke, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smith-McPhee and Andy Serkis as Caesar.
