Here is the synopsis:
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.
The previous film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, starred James Franco and was directed by Rupert Wyatt. When Wyatt left as the director for the sequel, Franco followed suit and also decided not to return.
The trailer shows human civilization slowly crumbling, various clips of war scenes, and a close-up of Caesar, the ape leader, looking angry. The mood of the trailer appears to be on the depressing side compared to the first film. While it is yet unclear whether there is anything truly original left out there to be mined from the old franchise, the mysterious trailer doesn't particularly offer much slack in that arena either.
Directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield), starring Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, and Judy Greer, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will be released in Orange County theaters on July 7th, 2014.
